Last December 6, 2014, we decided to spend our Saturday weekend on Intramuros because we’re looking for an interesting yet fun-filled trip. Intramuros was a good place to visit a Philippine nostalgia for its awesome historical ruins and views.
Our first destination was the very famous Manila Cathedral—the historical cathedral first built in 1571, destroyed many times by typhoon, earthquakes, and war, reconstructed and renovated, and now serves as one of the most beautiful churches in the Philippines!

We did not make it to go inside because there’s a wedding ongoing but we are able to see and appreciate the beauty of its walls, sculptured with very fine artistry.

At first, we didn’t realize that it would be a hard time under the sun exploring Intramuros by means of walking, so we decided to ride a Kalesa (or karitela)—a horse drawn calash used in the Philippines, which was made use during the 18th century as a mode of transportation. Good thing Manong and Mr. Horse were there to join us!
➳ ➳ ➳
Throughout the ride, we’re able to see many vintage houses and establishments. We feel like we’re in Spain. Who would’ve thought that you can already experience a mini Vigan in Manila? It’s a good feeling to have all these great vintages around!
➳ ➳ ➳
As the travel continues, great ruins of history amused us. The debris is awesome—very old, ancient, vintage, yet looks so classy and artistic. When wonders never cease!

Here are also some of our hard-working people around Intramuros. Our cameras wouldn’t waste a chance on taking a shot of them.
➳ ➳ ➳
Memories of the past also took our interests, for the weapons during the Spanish colony and the battle in Manila were kept and preserved here. It made us realize more the essence of our heroes’ sacrifices and sufferings.
➳ ➳ ➳
It’s really a must to visit and enjoy Intramuros. Aside from the historical lessons, one would be able to know what it’s like to experience the scenic views and memorable places.
Until the next adventure!
